Alexander (Son of William Duggan & Margaret Nolan) & Margaret (Daughter of John McGrath & Margaret Curran) married on October 27, 1894 at St. Malachy Church in the market area of Belfast. Patrick Dempsey and Maggie Rooney were their witnesses. The Dempsey family is connected to the Duggan family through marriage. Alexander's aunt Susan(Nolan) married Patrick Dempsey's brother, James. Alexander's sister-in-law, Sarah McGrath married Patrick Dempsey's son, James.

Alexander worked as a Boatman before the marriage and continued working on the docks until 1911 when he changed work as a crane driver. The couple lived at a number of homes during the marriage until they settled at 6 White Street in 1931 where they remained until Alexander's death in 1965.
