Thomas and Matilda married on March 16, 1897 at Belfast Trinity Church of Ireland in County Antrim. William Magee and Agnes Kennedy (Witnesses). Their son Thomas John was 3 years old when they married. In 1911 the family home included Matilda's widowed mother Eliza Crawl.

The couple had 8 children during the marriage.
